PRACTICE AREAS
BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE
Mr. Hughes is Senior Counsel to the Firm. He began his career in the Los Angeles
office of Morrison & Foerster
where he practiced law for six years in the firm's business department. At Morrison,
Mr. Hughes represented clients in a variety of transactions including leveraged
buyouts, secured and unsecured lending (representing both lenders and borrowers)
and general corporate law. Mr. Hughes then spent the next 17 years as in-house
counsel, most recently as Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Indymac
Bancorp, Inc., currently one of the ten largest residential mortgage lenders
in the United States and, with over $25 billion in assets, one of the largest
financial institutions headquartered in Southern California. His responsibilities
at Indymac included managing the legal department of the corporation, including
the corporation's relations with outside counsel, as well as managing the corporation's
compliance and insurance departments.
PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS
Mr. Hughes is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the State Bar of California and a former member of the American Corporate Counsel Association. He has served on various non-profit boards of directors and currently is a member of the Board of Visitors at his alma mater, Stanford Law School.
EDUCATION
Mr. Hughes graduated from Stanford Law School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern California, where he was a Trustee Scholar, and graduated summa cum laude from the School of Business, with an emphasis in Accounting.
